Omniscience means God is all-knowing. This means God knows everything, including the past and future. There is nothing that God is unaware of. God knows everything we are going through at this very moment and everything we will go through in the future. He knows the best way to handle every situation so we get the best possible outcome. For this purpose, we need to trust him without questions. We need to follow his path and trust that he knows the best. Trusting God is an essential element of true and saving faith that looks to God and finds peace, strength, and contentment.
Trusting God is a tautology. This is unfortunately understood only when bitter circumstances push us into it. Trusting God is an aspect of saving faith with three elements: knowledge, assent, and trust (cf. John Gill, Body of Divinity, vol. 1 [Grand Rapids: Baker Book House, 1978], 411). All three aspects go together, but without trust, faith is inadequate and shockingly indistinguishable from the faith of demons who believe and shudder before God. Trusting God is essential to Christian life. This, however, does not mean it is easy to trust God, especially in a world that questions the sanity of trusting him and devil-creating doubts. Nevertheless, trusting God will help us no matter what our circumstances.
One of the main reasons for trusting God is that He is worthy of our trust. Unlike men, He never lies and never fails to fulfill His promises. Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? “In Isaiah 14:24, The Lord assures “The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand.” Furthermore, His plans are perfect, holy, and righteous, and He works all things together for good for those who love and trust Him and are called according to His holy purpose. If we labour to know God through His Word, we will see that He is worthy.
The first thing to understand is that we are commanded to trust the Lord. Psalm 4:5 educates us that “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put your trust in the LORD.” Further, Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” The Christian life should be based on trust in God from the beginning to the end. The foundation supports the superstructure of repentance and belief in the gospel. We are called upon to believe in God and to believe in the Lord Jesus who is the way, the truth, and the life John 14:1 “ Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” And John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” We are further cautioned in Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Finally, to trust God is because there is no way out or an alternative. As humans, we cannot trust in ourselves or in others especially those who are subject to all the vagaries of unrighteousness. The choice should be obvious, but we fail to trust God because we don’t know Him. The only answer is to have a blind trust, like that of a child.
