Wonder means amazement, awe, marvel, astonishment, surprise, and something our eyes cannot believe. When we talk about God being a God of wonder, it means everything about God begins and ends with wonders. He carries out miraculous works and He alone can do great wonders. The Uncreated Creator God is a God of wonders. The fact that He created this world by way of mouth itself is a wonder. Exodus 15:11 proclaims “Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” Deuteronomy 26:8 also proclaims “And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:” God's wonders proclaim His omnipotence, His ultimate authority over all. They show us that He is here with us standing firmly. The wonders of God lead to a sense of awe that there is no one like Him!
All throughout the Bible, we see the many wonders of God on display. We see God's wonders in His miraculous acts and His mighty deeds. Psalm 75:1 "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare." God's wonders are miraculous works that put His power on full display. They are far greater than any human reach of power or ability. He is a God of wonders.
God's wonders not only showcase His power; they reveal facets of His character and glimpses into His plans and purposes on the earth. They show Him to be a loving and protective Lord. In Exodus 13:21-22, we learn that “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.” When Elijah was living by the brook of Cherith, the Lord had ravens come to feed him: "And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook
The wonders of God also enact His judgment. Leviticus 10:1-2 “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.” The Lord consumed the sons of Aaron with fire when they offered him "unauthorized fire" Korah, Dathan, and Abiram were swallowed up into the earth and their followers destroyed by the fire of the Lord when they rebelled against Moses. In the New Testament, Ananias and his wife Sapphira lied about how much money they had gained from the sale of a property . The apostle Peter confronted each of them individually for lying to the Holy Spirit and both Ananias and Sapphira were struck dead.
God’s wonders are supernatural acts beyond human understanding. Through extraordinary signs, the God of wonders demonstrates His limitless power, His inescapable presence, His divine protection, and His sovereign purposes. In each instance, God’s wondrous works are designed to draw people to Himself. Through these wonders, He assures the people that He is the God who cares for them and is capable of doing anything and everything for them.
