The entire Christendom firmly believes that the Bible is the Word of God. The Word of God is what the Bible claims to be in I Thessalonians 2:13 “We also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in believers” According to the Moody Bible Institute, "The Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments, is a divine revelation, the original autographs of which were verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit."
40 authors wrote the Bible over a period of 1,500 years. These Bible writers wrote as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit. An interesting thing about the Bible is that when the 66 books of the Bible with their 1,189 chapters and with 31,173 verses are brought together (KJV), we find perfect harmony in the message they convey. The unity in diversity is amazing, which points out the singularity of authorship viz., God through the Holy Spirit. Further, those who wrote the Bible lived at different times, some separated by hundreds of years, in different places, and came from different backgrounds and cultures. Some Bible writers were businessmen or traders; others were shepherds, fishermen, soldiers, physicians, preachers, and kings—human beings from all walks of life. They served under different governments and lived within contrasting cultures and systems of philosophy. Despite this, there is a single contour running throughout the scriptures. This speaks volumes about the Godly-inspired status of the Scriptures.
The Scripture emphatically states in II Peter 1:20-21, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. “The Holy Spirit revealed to the prophets the messages of Scripture. The writers of the Bible wrote not according to their own will or whim, but only as they were moved, or controlled, by the Spirit of God. The Bible is God’s own book! It is literally the Word of God. It is no wonder that Paul claims that the Bible is written by God, when he states in II Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
II Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” The Holy Bible affects human beings so profoundly because “all” of the Bible is “God-breathed.” It’s beyond documents and books: it’s indeed inspired God’s book. The prophets who wrote the Bible related what they saw and heard in human language, but their message came directly from God. Thus, the Bible is from the beginning to the end God’s own word.
Considering the fact that this holy Word of the Lord has been written over 1500 years, it is important to note, that all subsequent writings confirm what has been written in the past. For example, Matthew 4:4 - 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God' Deuteronomy 8:3." “Romans 3:15-17 - 'Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known' Isaiah 59:7,8.” In short, it is God speaking to us.
