Having known that God is omnipresent, which means God is everywhere, let us see what the Scriptures say. David said in Psalms 139:7-8 “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.” His presence is very near us and as believers, He is in us. Acts 17:27-28 “That they should seek the Lord if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.” Further in Proverbs 15:3, we learn “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.”
Since God is present everywhere, we acknowledge His presence and become conscious of His presence. In Genesis 28:16, Jacob felt His presence “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.” God reveals Himself to those who seek Him earnestly. Deuteronomy 4:29 “But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” As always God desires that we seek to come near Him and when we do then He reveals Himself to us.
When the Lord rescued His people from slavery in Egypt, He brought them out with great power and miracles. The Lord was with them throughout. His presence was side by side. Exodus 13:21-22 “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.” The Lord also uses His presence as a protection for His people. Exodus 14:19-20 “And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel, and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.”
The presence of the Lord is absolute, always, everywhere and all the time and in particular the presence of the Lord is always with the believers. We need to acknowledge His presence accept Him and give the reverence that is due to Him. Psalms 34:18 “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
