The Healing of God – Part IV The four gospels provide us with information about the healing ministry of Jesus Christ while He was here on the earth. We find that the Lord was able to heal whomever He pleased, wherever He pleased, as well as any disease or infirmity He was confronted with. The record is clear that Jesus supernaturally healed the sick of their ailments. There are about 37 miracles of Jesus recorded in the Bible, and many are not mentioned. More than twenty miracles are strictly physical healing from disease and sickness. As it is not possible to cover all the miracles of Jesus, some outstanding ones are covered here. The second miracle of Jesus is extremely important. In John 4: 47-52, this is given. A certain nobleman’s son lay sick at Capernaum. When he heard Jesus had come, he immediately rushed to see Him. When he came to Jesus, he begged him to come and heal his son who lay dying. John 4:47-51 “When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48 Then said Jesus unto him, except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house. Because of the first miracle in John 2 of Jesus turning water into wine in Cana, He now had the reputation in Galilee of being a miracle worker. So, when the nobleman was filled with the hope that his need for the miracle would be met, he came to Jesus. The distance of Capernaum from Cana was from twenty to twenty-five miles. Arthur Pink. “Except ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe.” How searching this is! Our faith grows when we see the amazing works of the Lord. We ask God for a certain thing, and we have a measure of faith that it will be given us; but in the interval of waiting, the bare word of God is not sufficient for us — we crave a “sign.” … Ah! have we not all of us cause to cry, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief” (Mark 9:24)? The first thing that strikes us here is, the astonishing kindness and condescension of Christ, that He bears with the man’s ignorance, and stretches His power beyond what had been expected. … When He says, Thy son liveth, He means that he has been rescued from the danger of death. In other words, he started back towards home believing what Jesus had said. Something about Jesus’ words enabled the man to overcome his limited view of Jesus’ ability to work in spite of the magnitude of the disease and in spite of the measure of the distance. The fact that he took the word of Jesus and departed only reflects his immense faith in the Master Healer, which is the key that unlocks all ticklish problems of our lives.
