The Healing of God- Old Testament- Part I

With sin comes all kinds of abnormalities and aberrations. Disease is one of them. Psalms 103:2-3 says “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;” One of God’s names is “The Lord who heals”, and so, therefore, it is God’s nature to heal. Healing is not just something God does; it’s Someone He is. He is the Healer. Therefore, our faith is not in healing but in the Healer. Exodus 15:26,” And said, if thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” There are umpteen instances of healing in the Old Testament, which go to prove without doubt that the Great Creator God is the ultimate Healer. The Lord declares in Deuteronomy 32:39 “See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.” God has power over life and death and over health and sickness. He is in full control. People were healed in various ways: Genesis 20:1-4 has an interesting narration.” And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. 2 And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. 3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife. 4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? Verse 17 tells us, “So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.” In the Book of Exodus, we read of God sending judgment upon Miriam, Moses's sister, for questioning her brother's leadership. Moses then prayed for his sister to be healed. In Numbers 12:13, Moses pleads, “And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.” The Lord did not heal her instantly. Instead, Miriam was made to stay outside the camp of Israel for seven days before she was allowed to return. However, she was healed of the leprosy. Rachel, the wife of Jacob, could not conceive. The Lord eventually allowed her to give birth. The Bible says in Genesis 30:22, “And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.” Hannah, the mother of Samuel the prophet, was healed of her inability to conceive. The Bible says the following about her prayers. Hannah had been praying for the ability to have children for a number of years. The Lord granted her request and healed her barrenness. Sarah and Leah were also blessed with a child by the Lord. I Kings 13:4-6 King Jeroboam pointed his hand in judgment at an unnamed prophet, and it ‘shrivelled up.’ The prophet interceded for Jeroboam, and his hand was restored to health.
