This title is particularly significant because it serves as a reminder that God is our protector, our defender, and our ultimate source of strength in times of troubles, trial and tribulation.
The title “Lord of hosts” appears in the book of Samuel when the father of Prophet Samuel goes annually to worship I Samuel 1:3 “ And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh.” Throughout the Old Testament, the title “Lord of hosts” is used to remind the people of Israel that God is their ultimate protector and the term “hosts” in this context refers to a multitude, specifically of angelic beings and celestial forces that serve God’s purposes. Joshua 5:15 “And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon, thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.” Again, in Isaiah 8:13 “Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.” we have a reference “By understanding the meaning behind this title, we can better appreciate the depth of God’s love for His people. In the Old Testament, the Lord has fought battles for His people umpteen times.
In the New Testament, the Lord of Hosts is also associated with Jesus Christ, who is often depicted as the commander of God’s heavenly armies. In Revelation 19:11-16 John describes a vision of Jesus leading the heavenly forces: “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse, and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness, he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns, and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Those, who comes through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will eventually defeat every enemy. Jesus is the LORD of hosts; Jesus is our Captain and marches ahead of us when we battle. He is our Lord of Host. In Him and Him alone do we find victory and witness His power and authority.
